ABSTRACT

Before continuing, it is valuable to identify some of the divisions that are associated with the knowledge economy. First, there will be economic divisions between industries and workers that form the core and periphery of the knowledge economy. Communities with robust knowledge-based industries and advanced services will provide growing incomes and quality of life for residents, while areas losing manufacturing and having little to replace it will find fewer opportunities for growth. Workers with higher education or technical training will be able to maintain their living standards, while those with less education will struggle to keep up.
