ABSTRACT
If we now enquire into the main themes and concerns of an ethnosymbolic perspective, we find that its fundamental premises spring directly from the critique of modernism that I have outlined. The various elements of that critique reveal the main motifs and assumptions of an ethno-symbolic approach to the formation and types of nations, the role of nationalisms and the persistence and change of nations and nationalisms.
