ABSTRACT

Early in its history, sustainability was primarily discussed among experts and scholars seeking to understand how the concept fit into the aims of sustainable development. As these experts sought to place the term in the context of modern challenges, they created definitions and meaning around it. Sustainability did not take long to move out of the field of experts, however. Today, the concept can be found in corporate reports, in the media, in schools, and on the lips of the general public in a variety of cultures.
