ABSTRACT
A quality review of a number of engineering teams over a range of business sectors identified the following problems in procedure:
inadequate design for manufacture;
overdesign in pursuit of excellence;
poor specifications;
too many design errors.
Many engineering design staff do not seem aware of their dual responsibility for quality:the quality of their individual work;
the quality of the ultimate product specified by the engineering department.
