ABSTRACT

Resource-based view of the firm – Emphasizes the need for an organization to exploit its distinctive capabilities. An organization’s capabilities are based upon the assets and competencies over which it has either access or control (Drummond and Ensor, 2001).

Organizational assets and capabilities – Organizational assets are the endowments a business has accumulated, such as those resulting from investments in scale, plant, location and brand equity, while capabilities reflect the synergy between these assets and enable them to be deployed to the company’s advantage (Day, 1994, cited in Hooley et al., 1998).
