ABSTRACT

Boots is best known as the UK's leading pharmacy or drugstore chain, with more than 1300 outlets in the UK and Ireland. In fact, there are six separate businesses making up The Boots Company, each operating largely independently, with a total sales revenue of just under £5 billion in 1998 and more than 85 000 employees. The market value of the company is just under £9 billion. Table 15.1 shows the company's financial highlights in the later 1990s.
