ABSTRACT

Because of the complexity and variety of approaches to collecting data at all four levels (reaction, learning, application, and impact), two chapters are devoted to presenting the techniques and issues surrounding this critical phase of evaluation. This chapter focuses on measuring reaction and learning while the next chapter focuses on measuring application and business impact. Participant reaction can represent instrumental feedback that can drive important changes in any part of the training delivery process. Measuring learning demonstrates the effectiveness of the program in meeting its critical learning objectives. Ensuring that participants have learned new knowledge or skills is the first step to measuring the ultimate success of the program.
