ABSTRACT

Psychologist and conflict resolution consultant Arnold Mindell of the Process Work Center in Portland, Oregon observed in his dissertation that “Synchronicity occurs as prefaces to the creation or annihilation of existence.”1 I would translate that to mean that synchronicity occurs in situations that have to do with extreme life changes: meeting your mate, someone dying, or in a crisis situation. In these times in our lives, we feel our vulnerability. We feel out of control, in good ways, uncomfortable ways, or perhaps a little of both. We seek answers from places where we may not have looked before. We are open to possibilities because we feel great joy, feel a state of flow that goes on and on, or closed to opportunity when we experience great pain, open like a raw wound, and grief that won’t go soon enough. It appears when we seem to take a large risk in our inner lives to experience the risks of being open, being vulnerable; things unexpected will be there for us. The investment we make in pushing our inner sense of self could become the answer to a dilemma we’ve been thinking about for some time.
