ABSTRACT

Resumes are often a major stumbling block to action for career shifts and development. Some people feel they must have a resume before even beginning the process. Not true. Others resist writing a resume because they unconsciously fear that they will have to use it if they have prepared it. Others feel resumes must include everything they have ever done and cannot bring themselves to eliminate anything. Writing a resume seems to bring about writer ’s block even for professional writers. Resistance and anxiety surrounding the idea of a resume exist for a very good reason. After all, writing a resume means putting your identity on paper, and this can be daunting for even the most secure person because our culture considers one’s work and career one of the most important components of one’s internal and external identity.
