ABSTRACT

With a satisfied look on his face, Henry Kline, vice-president of Ventures and Alliances for AT&T International, hung up the phone. The AT&T Italian office had just informed him that the Italtel bid had finally been approved by the necessary Italian government agencies. AT&T had been selected to enter into a partnership with the state-owned telecommunications equipment manufacturer; gaining the requisite governmental approvals had been the final hurdle in securing the project. After a long and competitive bidding process, Kline was elated to learn that AT&T had finally gained the chance to establish a genuine foothold in the European market.
