ABSTRACT

“Why is this line moving so slowly?” asked John Broach, controller and treasurer for US West International. Mr. Broach was in line for a security check at Heathrow in London. Dave Davis, who was Mr. Broach’s traveling companion and vice-president for strategic investments at US West International, began to peer around to determine the cause of the delay; the security guards were body searching everyone and opening every piece of carry-on luggage. In January 1991, this had become business as usual at Heathrow due to the growing tensions surrounding Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait.
