ABSTRACT

Mr. Park, president of SSA Mexicana (SSAMex), a Korean-owned maquila assembly plant, stole a precious few moments of quiet reflection before he made his second daily walk along the assembly lines. He stood, hands tightly clasped behind his back, gazing out his office window over Otay Mesa, a site for industrial development outside of Tijuana, Mexico. He could see the dust cloud blowing toward his office from the construction site of one of the area’s newest maquila plants several hundred yards away. He braced himself, unconsciously, against the unfelt wind, for his thoughts were about the presentation laying on his desk that he was to give next month at SSA Group’s international annual meeting of all overseas operations.
