ABSTRACT

What does business have to do with the inner life (line) of its employees or the evolution of the planet's consciousness? The sole responsibility of business, many will argue, is to earn the highest possible profit for its owners. They put up the capital resources and took the risks. But to look only at how increasing revenues or cutting expenses improves the bottom line misses the other two parts of the resource equation. Human resources (employees, customers and suppliers) and natural resources (land and what lives on and around it) are also of critical importance. In this chapter we will look at the role of business from an all encompassing, long-term perspective thereby connecting what is sown with what is reaped.
