Weshallplaceatthecloseofourremarksseveralpaperswhichthereaderwillperhapsbewellpleasedtoperuse.In1824,theGeographicalSocietypublishedaprogrammeofapremiumtobedecreedtothefit•stFrench,or foreign,travellerwhoshouldarriveatTimbuctoobythe wayofSenegambia.Itisknownthatthisprogramme wasdistributedthroughoutEuropeandinAfrica,and thatitpowerfullyinfluencedtheeffortsortheprojectsof manytravellers,andespeciallytheresolutionadoptedby M.Caillie.Weshallgivethisprogrammeaspublished; andafterwards,thereportmadetothesameSocietybythe committeewhichitappointed.fouryearsafterwardsto judgeofthemeritofthediscoveriesmadebytheFrench traveller.Thesetwopaperswillbefollowedbyextracts fromthecorrespondencerelativetohisreturntoEurope.
