ABSTRACT

Although in a particular studio implementation the rooms may be merged, it is helpful to consider each one in turn.

4.1.2.1 Studio

This area needs to have enough space – horizontally for access and camera shots, and vertically to have the lighting in a suitable place. It should be acoustically separated from the outside world – an appropriate curve – e.g. NC20, and have acoustic treatment to reduce the reverberation. Technically it should have wall (and grid) boxes where equipment can be plugged up and connection for other services, such as mains power and computer networks, can be made. The location of these should take into account any cyclorama and typical scenery placing, rather than architectural elegance. It should have a lighting grid which should be strong enough

to take tie-off points to secure scenery and slung equipment. Whether the lighting luminaries are permanently assigned to the studio or brought in for the production depends on use/ commercial considerations, but it is helpful to have some permanent luminaries – a mix of soft and spot (or dual source).
