ABSTRACT

Listeners will turn against unfair advertising of Radio Data System (RDS) features, so resist the temptation. The goal of offering this or any RDS service is to attract listeners who have indicated by the feature settings on their receiver that they want this information. Many RDS receivers allow the listener to set a default volume level for the traffic announcement so that the volume will be set to a consistent level during announcements. The Enhanced Other Network (EON) feature supplies information through the RDS datastream about other affiliated stations. KKID buys traffic information through a commercial service and supports the RDS traffic feature. To supply EON traffic information successfully some means of coordinating the RDS data of both stations to the audible announcement must take place. One benefit of providing EON traffic is the ability to provide localized traffic information. The engineer at WMGP devised a brilliant, plan to employ the use of EON traffic announcements.
