ABSTRACT

The Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS) Standard is maintained by the National Radio Systems Committee (NRSC). The RBDS Standard covers all of North America, including Canada and Mexico. The NRSC is a joint committee of the National Association of Broadcasters and the Electronic Industries Association. An NRSC standard is, in essence, an agreed upon standard between the broadcasters and the equipment manufacturers. The RBDS Subcommittee was formed out of the NRSC full committee to administer the RBDS specification directly. All recommendations made by the subcommittee are then passed on to the full NRSC committee for approval if incorporated as part of the Standard. The European Radio Data System (RDS) Standard is formally issued by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization. The RDS Standard is issued under document number EN 50067 and was last revised in April 1992. Since most of the technical development of the RBDS and RDS standards are handled by other organizations.
