ABSTRACT

On October 31st, [1995], the Technical Sub-Group of the FCC Advisory Committee's Special Panel met and approved the various reports and documents on the Grand Alliance Advanced Television system. They forwarded those materials to the blue ribbon Advisory Committee itself, with an endorsement that the Grand Alliance system be recommended to the FCC as the future television system for the United States. The Grand Alliance has been the focus of development efforts since mid-1993, shortly after the first round of testing. But the Grand Alliance ceases to exist once a recommendation has been made to and accepted by the Commission. Still to be developed will be much of the technology for production, post production, distribution, and release facilities operating either in standard definition television or in high definition television. The fundamental scanning standards or, more correctly, pixel matrices have been determined as part of the Advisory Committee process.
