ABSTRACT
In this chapter we fi rst review four dominant approaches to the concept of culture relevant to the fi eld of intercultural communication. We ask the following questions:
• Who are the researchers? • What is culture and what isn’t culture? • What is the goal of intellectual work? • What is the disciplinary root? • What are the challenges?
