ABSTRACT

Each has carved out its own niche in the content management market to varying degrees of success and they range in scope from free blogging tools to extensive, enterprise-wide systems that cost thousands of dollars to implement. For the purpose of this chapter, we will focus on web-based solutions, both free and for-pay systems, that allow nontechnical users without extensive markup or programming experience to create, edit, and publish content to the web, usually via a browser-based administrative interface. To keep this chapter within a reasonable scope, we will focus on open source tools that run on PHP and MySQL.
