ABSTRACT

The role of grandparents in children’s learning is a neglected area of research but as the authors of this chapter, members of a research team at Goldsmith’s College, University of London, discovered their contribution is worth further consideration. Grandparents often have a close and special relationship with their grandchildren and the research team found many examples of them involved in a range of learning events in the home where the grandparents sensitively joined with children in a process of discovery or shared their knowledge and experience.
