ABSTRACT

Sight-reading is one of the mysteries of broadcasting. Some people can do it without turning a hair. Others find it almost impossible. It is also one of the great unexamined myths of radio and TV. Many people will tell you that unless you can sight-read, you cannot consider yourself a broadcaster. Because of this far too many people imagine they are good enough at sight-reading to do it as a matter of course, rather than regarding it as a technique to be practised only in the most extreme circumstances.
