ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to one of the basic colorist tasks: matching shots. Many times, the need to match cameras is due to some technical mistake during production, but matching shots still needs to occur with even the most skilled director of photography and most diligent crew. Any good color correction application or system should have some method of storing and recalling visuals to which the people can refer. Less experienced colorists will find that one of the greatest ways to match shots is by using the split screens and the RGB Parade waveform monitors, matching the various “shapes” in the trace between each color channel or cell. Another good way to assist the people eye in matching is rapidly cutting back and forth. There are a lot of people who will put up a still, take the still reference and just meticulously match all throughout.
