ABSTRACT

Introduction Producing for nonprofits can be gratifying for those who

enjoy documentary formats and storytelling from the heart. Such videos may provide the education and training to affect significant social change and even save lives. Nonprofits range from tiny community organizations with a small storefront office to huge associations like the Red Cross and the American Cancer Society, with divisions across the country if not the world. Much of the work of nonprofits involves fund-raising, now frequently referred to as “development.” The video producer in the nonprofit sector frequently works together with the organization to apply for grant money to produce a video. Sometimes he or she does all the legwork to get the grant.
