ABSTRACT

Don’t be scared of lighting! A lot of people are apprehensive about doing the wrong thing and looking foolish. Others think of lighting as an unnecessary luxury for a small production unit. They assume it requires a lot of equipment, and kilowatts of power. It can, if you have to light a largestudio drama, or the inside of a stadium. But everyday video productions are not usually so extensive, and even quite modest facilities will still give you opportunities for some really worthwhile lighting treatment. As we shall see, there are many situations where just one lamp, or a wellplaced reflector, is all that is needed to make a picture spring to life. Even where production is on a larger scale, foresight and imagination can often make a little light go a long way. It is chiefly a matter of knowing what you are aiming at, what to look out for, and what you can do about problems you meet.
