ABSTRACT

Student assessment is a critical aspect of the educational encounter. At its best, it provides teachers with important knowledge of students and their growth as learners, informs ongoing curricular and pedagogical practice, is a basis for helping students reflect on their own learning, and serves as a window for parents into the power of the teaching-learning exchange that involves their sons and daughters. Without careful attention to assessment, the educational limitations for students and teachers are large. In so many ways, this is the central message of this book.
