ABSTRACT

Are you just starting out in the film industry and interested in the camera department? If so, you will probably start out as a Camera Trainee or Camera Production Assistant (PA). Many film students get internships on films as a Camera Trainee or Camera PA, which gives them a foot in the door once they finish film school. The Trainee or Production Assistant working with the camera department may have little or no experience, but when starting out in one of these positions that usually doesn’t matter. The important thing is to be willing to work hard and always have a smile on your face. When asked to do something, no matter what, do it happily, quickly, and safely. If you are not sure about something, always ask. The First or Second Assistant would rather you ask than do something incorrectly. Be respectful of others, learn their names, watch how other crew members conduct themselves and you will quickly learn proper on-set etiquette and procedures.
