ABSTRACT
The forces of social and economic change that are reshaping Chagga society are heightening conflicts in Chagga families. Tensions are building between spouses and between generations in the same compound. Most women are working longer and harder, while many men face dwindling opportunities to earn wages. Family resources wane as farmland is fragmented into smaller and smaller plots.
