ABSTRACT
The “ mail relationship ” in Lena’s is an invention that came about through the process of trying to come up with an idea for your screenwriting class at FSU. My fi rst idea had something to do with a plant shop run by an eccentric lady, I think, and I just kept fl ip-fl opping characters and situations until it felt like something I wanted to write. If something wasn’t inspiring me, I just changed it. I kept adding in bits that I saw in real life, like the character of the father as a breast surgeon. My father isn’t a breast surgeon, but I read an article in The New York Times about one, and his fl amboyance really tickled me, especially in contrast with a girl who is experiencing a certain amount of anxiety about her own development.
