ABSTRACT

Video transfer prints of feature films and virtually all prints of film-produced television series programs are lo-con prints because these prints produce the best results in video transfer. To facilitate the preparation of film prints for distribution abroad and to foreign-language markets, it is common practice to print separately all footage that appears behind superimposed titles so that translated titles in various languages can be produced. From the customer's standpoint, three things will help ensure getting the best results from the film lab. First, the labs being considered should be contacted during the planning stages of the production. Second, following each day's shooting, the production staff should communicate precisely to the lab representative what materials are en route from the studio or location and what special situations have arisen. Finally, the producer should establish a working relationship with one or two labs that have provided good service in the past and should continue this relationship from project to project.
