ABSTRACT

Transfer costs for a film-based video project can be a significant part of the project's total post-production budget. Successfully steering a film-to-video transfer project from inception to delivery requires considerable aesthetic, technical, and administrative skills. Central to this task are selecting the best transfer facility for the project and carefully budgeting to bring the project in on target. Before planning and facility selection can begin, it is important that those who are responsible for a project honestly assess their own knowledge and resources. If they have good experience and firm knowledge about film-transfer facilities and processes, they can proceed with confidence, planning and making the decisions required to get the job done. Facility managers constantly evaluate their company's position in the marketplace and make adjustments to maintain their market share and profitability. The selection of the best transfer facility is a difficult task because so many variables influence the selection.
