ABSTRACT

DVD is a new breed of delivery medium for entertainment and information, and it brings with it new requirements that promise fundamentally to change conventional production processes.

Before DVD, the process of preparing a film or video program for home video release was often quite straightforward, sometimes simply a matter of transferring from one medium to another. The professional skills involved were focused primarily on yielding copies that were as close in quality as possible to the original source, even though the delivery medium was different (not an easy task for VHS releases).
