ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some of the specifics dealing with meeting the volume level standards for a variety of projects and shows how well Soundtrack is able to handle different scenarios. The major difference between theatrical mixing and mixing for television is that the dynamic range in mixing for television has to be a lot more controlled. Soundtrack has a useful metering plug-in like the Broadcast bundle from Waves or a hardware metering solution from Dolby. To access the metering plug-in in Soundtrack (called the multimeter), the multimeter effect needs to be chosen from the Metering category. The Soundtrack compression effect allows to set the threshold using an RMS reading instead of a peak reading. Soundtrack can be used for broadcast mixing when used with third party solutions. It is the perfect tool for mixing audio for the web.
