ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on creating animation effects by using motion parameters of Final Cut Express. It presents several exercises to learn different techniques, beginning with motion control, pan and scan issues, creating split screens, picture in picture, and making the motion graphics open for a classic TV show Brady Bunch Open. Pan and scan is a slang term for motion control on large-size still images. A split screen is desirable for many reasons: for showing parallel action, such as two sides of a phone conversation, or showing a wide shot and a close-up in the same screen. A nice touch to add to picture in picture is a drop shadow from the Motion tab. This will help separate it from the underlying image and give the screen a sense of three dimensionality.
