ABSTRACT

The first way that the desktop editor usually analyzes the video image is to simply view the image on the computer screen. This is not recommended, though, because the gamma response of a computer display is different from a TV set or video monitor. Also, this image has not yet passed through the video card as it will when it goes to tape. A properly adjusted video monitor is definitely the preferred way to look at your image unless your project is going to be delivered solely via the web or to computer monitors. There is also a section later in this chapter on properly calibrating your video monitors.
