ABSTRACT

Unless a fi lmmaker has already made and sold a movie, he has no track record, so approaching an investor for a million dollars is like a recent business school graduate asking for a million dollars for a start-up company. Most investors will laugh at him and tell him to build a company out of his garage and make a profi t; then, once he does, come back and ask for investment dollars. The fi lm industry works the same way, wherein fi nanciers fl ock to fi lmmakers with a proven track record, whose work has generated a profi t in the past.
