ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some basic editing on Xpress Pro. When working with nonlinear editing systems, the basic workflow is, well, basic. The Basic toolset consists of three major areas: The Composer Window or Monitor, pop-up windows or monitors, and the Timeline. The Source Monitor, unlike a pop-up monitor, remains in one place. If the Record Monitor is empty, Xpress Pro creates a new sequence automatically. By placing the sequences in separate bins away from the clips, the project will remain well organized. Normally edits require three marked points. This is called three-point editing. The Replace Edit is a unique function that allows editors to replace a shot in a sequence based upon a key event. Fit-to-fill makes life really simple for those who need coverage of narration, and this is its most common use. Avid Xpress Pro Help is helpful for exploring many of the less used functions on the system.
