ABSTRACT

Beatmapping is the process of mapping the beat of a song to ACID tempo information. It is accomplished with the ACID Beatmapper. The Beatmapper adds information to the project or the song that identifies the first downbeat and the duration of a measure. From these two pieces of information, ACID calculates the beats per minute (bpm) and maps the song’s tempo. Once a song is beatmapped, it will follow the tempo of the project, and any loop that you bring into ACID will map to the beat of the song as well. This is the heart of remixing songs to create things like a “mash-up”—a track that uses vocals from one song superimposed over the backing tracks of another.
