ABSTRACT

The Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) standard was introduced in January 1983 as a way of controlling electronic keyboards and sound modules remotely from another keyboard or computer. It is very similar in concept to the player piano that was invented almost a hundred years earlier in 1890. Using a series of Note On and Note Off events, much like the holes in a player piano roll, you can record the keyboard actions and store them to be played back later on any MIDI-enabled device.
