ABSTRACT

It’s All About Post How do you know when you’re done shooting a doc? This is always a tricky question.

The practical answer could depend on your budget, your visa status, your production

deadline or, more hopefully, on your story. But at some point, whether by choice or

force, you must call an end to production and begin to lay out your story through the

process of editing. This is where your project comes together or falls apart. The

essence of documentary storytelling ultimately comes down to not so much how a

story was shot, but rather how that footage is selected, edited, and treated during

post-production.
