ABSTRACT

Once the script is written, it is time to get ready for your edit. The first step is to get your script approved. On each show there is a producer at a higher level who reads scripts before a field producer goes in to edit. This is to make sure that the story is clear and well laid out. As unpleasant as this process can be — because sometimes you will have to go back and do a rewrite — it really is for your protection. As with series TV, if your script isn’t working, your story won’t work, which means all of the time you and the editor spend putting the story together will have been wasted.
