ABSTRACT

Getting an entry-level job in the television industry will probably feel really good … for a limited amount of time. But if you are a true writer, the novelty will wear off quickly. It is possible, even likely, that you will start to feel frustrated because you will probably be asked to do things that you consider beneath you. After all, in your heart, you are a writer, not a gopher, nor a production assistant, nor a script typist, nor a production secretary. You may look at some of the writers and think that you could do a better job. Maybe you could. But the bottom line is they are in their job and you are in yours. You are picking up a paycheck for whatever job you have agreed to do and so you have an obligation both to the show and to the people who hired you to do that job well.
