ABSTRACT

The extreme end of under-cranking is called time lapse, which occurs when one is taking exposures at frame rates as slow as 3 frames per minute or 1 frame per minute. A camera running at 1 frame per minute will record 24 minutes of activity in only 24 frames. When projected back at 24 fps, those 24 minutes will now happen in one second. With time lapse we can see movements that usually occur gradually over many minutes or hours, like the sun setting or storm clouds forming, in a matter of seconds (Figure 8-5).
