ABSTRACT

Selling your project can be a real challenge. Getting the green light can depend entirely on the quality and content of your pitch, so the pitch process can be stressful for even the most seasoned producers. Yet giving a pitch is simply about making a sales offer — you are appealing to someone in a position of power who can approve your project and who stands to benefit from its success. In most cases, a pitch has two parts:

1. A written pitch — also called a proposal, prospectus, or pitch on paper (POP), it also may include a business plan

2. A verbal pitch — a face-to-face, in-person meeting where you get a chance to share your idea, your confidence, and your ability to produce it

Before you translate your project to paper and rehearse your pitch, take a moment to explore the bigger picture of the television industry.
