ABSTRACT

No matter how hard he fought, Jeremy Garelick’s eyes were closing. He’d been on set for more than fourteen hours, and the weights within his head kept pulling down his eyelids. All Garelick wanted was a bed, but as he glanced at the Irish countryside, where he was shooting second unit for Joel Schumacher’s upcoming movie Veronica Guerin, he knew he still had a couple of hours to go. Garelick pried his eyes open– he could not mess this up. He’d spent the last several months working as an assistant to the award-winning director, and Schumacher had finally agreed to let him shoot second-unit. It was a huge break, but “I still wasn’t making any money,” says Garelick. More importantly, “I wasn’t really seen as a writer and a director, which was my ultimate goal.”
