Shilpi Roy needed to make something. She had spent over $100,000 to get through USC’s graduate film program, and what did she have to show for it? Nothing–except a handful of three-year-old student films and some videos she’d edited for Playboy TV and Brave New Films. “The whole point of being a filmmaker is to make things,” Roy says, and “I hadn’t made anything in a long time.”
