ABSTRACT

This chapter presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts covered in this book. The book is intended as a gateway drug. In order to think about a transmedia property people have to think in broad and eclectic terms. The journey the book begins with is the process of reading and thinking about what lies at the heart of the most successful transmedia properties and how people manage to create a universe that supports a wide variety of expressions that connects to multiple audiences. Most of the successes have been, up to this point, at least part serendipity. That will always be true, but what producers and creatives can do is give themselves a better chance to develop, produce and manage a property in a way that has been informed by the past successes, by the present culture and by the emerging technologies. That's the real challenge of transmedia storytelling; it is like juggling chainsaws, really exciting but really dangerous.
