ABSTRACT
A large tea-garden is located adjacent to the Shǀkǀ-ken tea-house extending west and south of the tea-house. The northern and western perimeters of the
garden are flanked by earthen walls and an entrance gate is located in the north
western corner of the site. I have identified an inner and outer garden area that
are differentiated primarily by their spatial characteristics. The inner garden is
located directly adjacent to the entrance of the tea-house and extends west
several meters. In this chapter the inner garden is discussed in terms of its
layout, spatial organisation, components-materials and planting. The external
garden is discussed in the following chapter.
