main structural elements from the weather, however, when choosing a cladding many other factors must be considered - these can include:

Figure 9.1 shows the effect of how (regulations permit­ ting) vertical and horizontally placed cladding can appear when fully or partly covering an elevation of a building. Elevations at (a) and (c) give the impression of lifting the height of the building by making it appear taller than it is. Just as elevations (b) and (d) appear to stretch and shorten the building by making it look longer.
