ABSTRACT

We are all familiar with such cliches as “home is where the heart is,” “a man's home is his castle,” “home, sweet home,” and “there's no place like home.” But for ex-offenders and their families, “home” is neither trendy nor cliche, but instead one of the most daunting issues they face during the reentry process. It can truly be classified as a collateral sanction or invisible punishment—perhaps not an “intended” consequence of the crime committed, but an all too real result of having done time.
